Long Term Care Hospitials

Patients who require intensive care for an extended period of time are usually transferred to a long term care hospital (LTCH). Medicare Part A does cover care in a long term care hospital specialized in treating patients who may have more than one serious condition. You generally won't pay more for care in a long-term care hospital vs a more general accute care hospital. Contact Medicare for more information regarding long-term care hospital coverage.

The quality of care each hospital provides can vary. Compare long term care hospitals nationwide and review the quality of care each location provides. Talk to a doctor or physician regarding your specific needs and see how each hospital rates for infections, pressure ulcers and other complications that may affect your health condition during your stay.
