A nursing home is a place for people who can't be cared for at home and need 24-hour nursing care. In Texas, there are approximately 699 Medicare certified nursing homes. Medicare Part A may cover care from a nursing home, but ONLY if it is medically necessary to have skilled nursing care. Medicare DOES NOT cover custodial care. Custodial care is non-skilled personal care like bathing, dressing, eating or simply getting in and out of bed or moving around. Check with Medicare for more information.
